A member in one of our groups needed surgery on her foot. She did it at a local hospital, where her hospital-owned doctor sent her. The hospital charged $28,000 for the surgery. The PPO had what most would consider a competitive discount, bringing the total surgery cost down to $17,000, and the member paid a little over $1,000 out of pocket. Typical scenario, but Transperra is a much better way.
Through Transperra, the member could have been pulled out of the hospital feeder system' and presented with two alternative local hospital and surgery center options. The alternative hospitals were equal in quality measures. Yet, their FULL BILLED CHARGES were significantly less than what the self-funded employer paid for the surgery AFTER the "competitive" PPO discount was applied. Additionally, the members' out-of-pocket could have been waived, yielding significant savings for the member and employer.
Brokers, Employers, and TPAs: If you want to learn more about Transperra and how easy it is to implement for your clients, the people at The Legacy Benefits Group would welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
